Alamance Academy Day TEAM

Virgilla Curmon, Director & Mathematics Instructor

For over 30 years, I have served children and families as an educator in neurodiverse settings, teaching primarily middle and high school Mathematics, as well as Science, Art, Yearbook, and Technology. I’ve also worked in school administration and leadership, always focusing on helping students feel seen, supported, and capable of success. In addition to my work in education, I have served as a non-denominational minister for more than 20 years, walking alongside young people and families through seasons of growth, healing, and transformation.

My heart has always been to nurture the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—and to create environments where students can discover their strengths, build confidence, and learn in ways that truly work for them. I am honored to bring this vision to life as the Founding Director of Alamance Academy Day, right here in the community I call home.

I am married, a proud bonus mom to four amazing young adults, and a doggie mom to Weez and Mello. I live right here in Alamance County and consider it a blessing to help equip our young people to lead, learn, and thrive.  We Launch...They Soar!

With over 10 years of experience working with children and young people, I am passionate about fostering creativity, confidence, and curiosity in every student I teach. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working as an art teacher, youth coach, and now as a drama and performance art teacher. Each role has deepened my commitment to helping students discover their unique voices and talents.

In the classroom, I strive to create an engaging, supportive environment where students feel empowered to take creative risks and express themselves authentically. I believe the arts are a powerful tool for building confidence, collaboration skills, and critical thinking.

Outside of school, I enjoy staying active at the gym, playing soccer, attending trivia nights, and participating in science conferences. I’m also passionate about creating performance art in my free time, which continually inspires and enriches my teaching practice.

I look forward to another exciting year of creativity, growth, and performance with my students!

I was born and raised in Mexico but moved to NC in 1995. Since then, I have served the community in various capacities, including working as a Spanish teacher, Spanish Interpreter at the Alamance County Health Department and working for the Alamance Burlington School System from 2003 until 2024. I firmly believe that every child can learn and thrive in the right environment and with proper support. I see myself as a team player who can support parents in the God-given task of raising well-rounded children, and I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve the students at Alamance Academy Day.
